I got woken up by my mother, screaming at me that Michael Jackson passed away. I was shocked but groggily asked her if it was suicide. I don't know why I automatically asked that! I immediately got up and went straight to my computer and went to 'Celebitchy' to check up on the news.
So its true, Michael Jackson is no longer with us. This is shocking. It took me a while to digest it all in and as I sat watching BBC and CNN, tears started to well up and I had to move away from the tv before my parents see me crying. I personally never believed the pedophile charge made against him - I do believe in people taking advantage of him as Donna Summer said, he was a sitting duck.
He may be weird/eccentric but that is just who he is. Whatever it is, you can't take his achievements from him. I grew up with Michael Jackson and I loved his music video as a toddler. My mum used to record his music videos (among others) for me to watch while she cooked and cleaned. It was the only way she could get a precocious 3/4 year old to sit still. So yeah during my childhood I grew up to the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, Boy George, Bonnie Tyler and etc and this is why I have this crazy love for the 80's.
As I grew older I kinda mellowed out. I liked his songs but never too crazy till my cousin showed me Moonwalker. She was raving about Smooth Criminal and true enough Smooth Criminal blew me away. The dance moves were electrifying. We were gobsmacked and intoxicated by the dance moves in the video. I bought all his cds and would constantly listen to them. I watched his music videos over and over again - Who is it being my general favourite.
In 1996, I missed out on his concert when he came down to Malaysia because my dad was being an overprotective dad and thought that concerts were dangerous. *sigh*. In addition to the paranoid dad, I had the stupid nationwide PMR exams to study for which hampered my chances of going to the concert. *sigh*
Anyways although I am no longer a crazy obsessed fan of old. I still do love his music. That will never change and I am fortunate that I grew up listening/watching him. He will always be remembered.
May you rest in peace Michael Jackson.
